Health Insurance Support
In recent months, together with our friends at St David's Church in Llandudno, we have been able to support two separate groups of elderly people in two very rural areas in the Western Province of Rwanda, by funding their Health Insurance for the coming year and enabling them to purchase food to share within their families, but also when these two groups meet together. This is a very important act in Rwanda to share food, and particularly important for these two groups who are Reconciliation Groups, coming together from the two previous tribes in Rwanda - Hutu & Tutsi.
St David's had a Christmas appeal
asking church members to donate £2
(the cost of Health Insurance in
Rwanda) and just give one Christmas
card to friends from Church, which
were all posted on a big board during
the festive season. This raised £424.70.
Below is a message I sent to the two
groups, and here you will see
photographs when they came
together to receive the gifts, and a
video they sent in return. I am sure
you can see the joy on some of the
faces, particularly the 'lady in red'!
"Dear my friends in Gitsmbwe
and Kaburiro,
You are so often in my thoughts, and I look forward to the day when I can return to greet you all in person once more.
Ephaste has informed me that we have more available funding which I think will make life a little easier for you all. Some of this has been raised by friends from St David's Church in Llandudno, Wales, who are now partnering with us to help with our work in Rwanda.
I believe we can offer you funds to cover your Health Insurance costs for 2026/27. This is so important as we age, as I know well. In our heads, we still believe we are young, but sometimes our bodies give us a different message. It is therefore so important to have medical help available if we need it.
I hear too that we can help you purchase food which can be cooked and shared within your families. It is lovely when we can join our children and grandchildren, and share food together. And also that you as a group will be able to meet, cook and share meals together as friends.
Very often, our charity has events when we can meet as a community, share food, and have a good time together, and this is as important in the UK as it is to you.
I send my love and blessings to you all, until we meet again.
