Educational Support
EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT UPDATE
A few months ago, we reported that we had donated money to support Rukembura Primary School in the purchase of notebooks, pencils, etc for their pupils.
Gilbert has since sent an update, together with photos, and now 72 pupils will each receive the following items ready for the start of their new September term.
- A school bag
- 10 notebooks (for subject lessons)
- 1 eraser
- 1 mathematical set
- 6 biro pens
- 1 set of pencils
- 1 sharpener
- 1 set of coloured crayons
- 1 ruler
There will be many happy faces as these items are delivered, and many thanks if you have helped in any way to support this project.
As a charity, we are very lucky to have regular supporters and donors, and collectively aside from our fundraising events, their support enables us to do some great things.
We have long worked in the field of education for there are many needs, and we have recently been able to support the following projects identified to us by our partners in Rwanda.
£1,000 -
to bring a water supply to
Kibari Nursery School in the Gicumbi
District of the Northern Province in
Rwanda, which currently houses 80
children to two classrooms. Cleanliness is
difficult without water, and the hope for
the future is that this site may one day
house a primary school too, so a water
supply will make a huge difference.

£1,000 -
given to provide sanitary
towels in a number of primary schools
where pupils attend from 7-14/15 years,
and many are too poor to provide for
their basic needs. Most school's now have
a 'girl's room' which can be accessed
whenever there is a need, and we feel
this is a much-needed service to help
with cleanliness and confidence amongst
younger women
£1,000 -
to provide notebooks and pencils at Rukembura Primary School, a village we have worked in for many years. As education progresses it is important for pupils to have equipment, but many cannot afford it, and we feel this contribution will help as there are regularly 800/1000 pupils in some of these primary schools.
to purchase a photocopier for Gisovu
Secondary School in the Western Province, one of
the poorer areas of the country. Headteachers
and teachers need to print class notes and exam
papers, but many cannot afford a photocopier
and this need is not met by the Government, so
schools have to try to purchase themselves.
Photocopiers are often only available in cities like
the capital Kigali, so transport to other regions
can cost nearly has much as the photocopier
itself. We are currently exploring whether it might
be possible to transport equipment when journeys
are being made by our partners across the country, and then the schools make arrangements to pick up from a nearby location, as this may reduce costs and enable us to supply more machines in the future.
£750 -
In addition to the above, we have a couple who have supported a girl through her education since she left primary school. Vestine was very bright, but from a poor family, and would not have received any further education beyond her primary years, as secondary education is privately funded. Our friends funded her secondary education, and she then won a scholarship to university. She still has to fund her own bedding, food and books and so our friends continue to support, but to a lesser extent. Vestine regularly corresponds with her sponsors and is always mindful and so grateful for what they do and have done to help her, as she knows their support has changed her life.
The Bright Angels Nursery School Project
From Gilbert Muhire, pharp rwanda
Dear Heather,
We would like to sincerely thank you for the
continued support you and your team are
providing to PHARP-Rwanda. Your partnership
means so much to us and is making a tangible
difference in the lives of the children and
community we serve.
I am also glad to share some encouraging
updates regarding the Bright Angels school
construction. With funds received from The
Goboka Rwanda Trust, we have been able to
make significant progress, including the construction of the school fence, the school office, and the main school gate. Currently, we are painting the classrooms and the school office. Overall, we are approximately at 70% completion of the key construction activities required to obtain permission to start the Elementary School.
We are truly thankful for this provision, including the collaboration letter we received from Gicumbi District. This is an important
step as we prepare to request the official
permission to begin the Elementary School with the start of the 2026/27 academic year in
September 2026.
Additionally, on 2nd April 2026, our kindergarten students received their report
cards, marking the conclusion of the second term of the 2025/26 academic year. It was a
joyful moment shared with some parents who came to support their children.
Please continue to keep us in your prayers, especially as we work towards completing the construction and obtaining the official authorisation to begin the Elementary School.
Kindly find attached photos showing the progress of the school construction.
Thank you once again for your unwavering support.
