Inshutiyanshuti Support
Several months ago, we were asked if we could support
a member of the Inshutiyanshuti (the friends of the
Reconciliation group) with the sum of £400.

Steven is an older member of this group, who started
working together after the Genocide (Tutsi & Hutu) to
build a lasting peace. He is really struggling now with
what I think may be Parkinson's Disease, and was
concerned for his wife and family if he could no longer
work to support them, as they were quite poor.

It is not usual for Goboka to support individuals, as most
of our projects benefit whole communities, but this
request came from Bishop Samuel who knew much about
Steven's family situation, and said the money could
purchase a cow whose milk would benefit them greatly.
There would also be enough for them to buy seed for
crops and maybe a bag of rice or maise. Because this
request came from our partners, we felt it important to
support it, and this week, Bishop Samuel has visited
Steven's house, together with some of his Inshutiyanshuti friends, and handed over the gift.

You will see from the photo and the video below just what a gift like this can mean, and how it can help change lives.

I do hope that I will be able to visit Steven when I am next in Rwanda.
